Second-year graduate student in electrical engineering Katie Shuttenberg instructs Cooper Eisenstat, an eighth-grader at Pittsford Barker Road, during the Circuits and Gears class. RIT's K-12 Academy offers the workshop to 7-11 graders providing instruction on circuitry, digital electronics and some basic coding. Over 200 youth attend the RIT Kids on Campus summer classes in topics that help prepare them for fields in technology.

RIT team wins global U.S. State Department challenge aimed at combating terrorism

"It's Time: ExOut Extremism," a social media campaign created by RIT students, took top prize in a global challenge conducted by the U.S. State Department aimed at finding ways to counter terrorist propaganda online. The RIT team was the only group from the United States to reach the finals of the P2P: Challenging Extremism competition, and became the first U.S. team to win first place, defeating this year's other finalist teams from Versalius College in Brussels and Khazar University in Baku, Azerbaijan. Apple names game created by three RIT students one of the best apps of 2016

A game developed by three RIT students has been named one of the most well-designed apps of 2016, according to Apple. The game app, called Dividr, took home an Apple Design Award at the tech giant's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) June 13 in San Francisco. Apple gives out 12 Apple Design Awards each year—10 to professionally developed apps and two to student apps. The annual awards are meant to recognize independently developed apps that raise the bar in design, technology and innovation. Read More >>

Humans of New York creator coming to Brick City Weekend

Brandon Stanton, the man who created the popular Humans of New York blog and books depicting portraits of life and individuals in New York City, will be this year's Student Government Horton Distinguished Speaker during RIT's Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend, Oct. 14-16. The weekend typically draws 17,000 participants to RIT's campus and the Rochester area. It features more than 100 events during three days, including notable speakers and men and women's hockey games. Read More >>
