You can initiate positive social change at Brandeis
Thursday, November 10, 2016
Take, for instance, alumnus Sam Vaghar ‘08, whose experiences at Brandeis inspired him to not only find his voice, but to also empower future generations of college students to do the same.
A year before he graduated from Brandeis, Sam founded the Millennium Campus Network (MCN), mobilizing student leaders on a national scale to do their part in solving world crises. MCN’s core focus is achieving the UN’s sustainable development goals, which include ending world poverty and achieving gender equality. Sam’s vision for the MCN centered on educating undergraduates through a fellowship program, during which they develop professional and networking skills while receiving funding and academic credit for their service.
His work has led the organization into its eighth year, and he even presented their platform to the United Nations and President Barack Obama.
During his return to campus last month, Sam expressed his gratitude for Brandeis, recalling that it was “one of the original four universities to say yes first to the Millennium Fellowship.” He then added, “if not for Brandeis, this movement wouldn’t be where it is today.”
It’s no surprise that Brandeis students, like Sam, are socially responsible, civically engaged, and take pride in leaving the world a better place than they found it. If gaining leadership skills and impacting change are what you are looking for in your college experience, apply to Brandeis.
