Dear Diana,

As a sophomore in college, I had a transformative experience that set me on the path to a future in medicine. I was doing research with a Brandeis professor, attempting to determine the chemical structure of a new material. It was challenging and engaging work and, along the way, I fell in love with science.

The Global Youth Summit was not around during my own high school years, but, if it had been, I would have jumped at the chance to be a part of it. The Summit introduces you to extraordinary people and ideas that will change the way you think about medicine and your possible future in healthcare and allied fields. It puts you in the room with leaders whose innovative work is helping to define what 21st century healthcare is and what it will become.

As a pediatrician-researcher and an educator, I will tell you what the Summit has given students: for some it bridged the gap between science on the page and science in practice; for others it showed them what it means to be a medical professional in today’s complex and fast-changing world. For all, it was an exciting experience in Boston with talented students from across the country who share a deep interest in science and medicine.

You can learn more about the Summit by visiting our website, contacting the Office of Admissions at 781-736-3500, or sending your questions to youthsummit@brandeis.edu.

I hope to see you at the Summit this June.

Sincerely,

Steve A. N. Goldstein '78, M.A., M.D., Ph.D., F.A.A.P.
Chairman, Global Youth Summit on Medicine Advisory Board
