AMPrint Center Director Denis Cormier, RIT's Earl W. Brinkman Professor in the Kate Gleason College of Engineering, spoke at the official opening of the new Additive Manufacturing and Multifunctional Printing (AMPrint) Center. The center is among the first research labs in the world to focus on development of next-generation multi-functional 3D printing technologies, materials and devices.

NIH grant to develop ultrathin membranes for tissue engineering

Researchers at RIT are advancing tissue engineering through new work in developing improved porous membranes that will be the "scaffolds," or foundational structures, for in vitro tissue models. "We are building membranes that will not only solve the needs of researchers studying the basic biology of barriers, but also scientists and engineers investigating drug discovery and stem cell differentiation," said Thomas Gaborski, assistant professor of biomedical engineering in RIT's Kate Gleason College of Engineering. E-sports becomes newest intramural sport

Move over soccer and volleyball. The newest intramural sport being offered at RIT is competitive video gaming—more commonly known as e-sports. Starting this fall, teams of five began facing off in the battle arenas of the video game Heroes of the Storm. The competition is all in hopes of capturing a team photo with the championship trophy and the right to wear a coveted RIT Intramural Champions T-shirt. "Instead of just playing alone at home, we actually can meet up, talk and play in the same room, which is really fun—and since we are all playing the same game, it's a lot like being on a sports team," said Rachael Bosley, a fourth-year applied arts and sciences major. RIT again ranked among world's best design schools

RIT's School of Design in the College of Imaging Arts and Sciences (CIAS) is ranked 10th among the 30 best design schools in the world in a new ranking conducted by a leading digital-media company. Ranker, which crowdsources opinion-based rankings over the Internet, highlights the best design programs in the world and some of the top schools to study design. The ranking highlights the growing role design schools are playing in producing creative designers to the labor force. "This new ranking is yet another indication of the hard work and investment of the superb design faculty, students, staff and administrative team at RIT and CIAS," said Lorraine Justice, the college's dean.
