| Diana, Rice Professor José Onuchic won a $1.4 million grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for the study of structures and functions of biomolecules. He is co-director of Rice's Center for Theoretical Biological Physics, Chair of the Physics Department and a professor of both Chemistry and BioSciences. Onuchic's work places Rice at the forefront of interdisciplinary STEM research. The NSF grant allows Onuchic to continue his lab's study into the complex folding of biomolecules such as DNA, RNA, and proteins. Onuchic is a pioneer in protein-folding theory, and he uses an energy-based computational model to predict the structure and function of biomolecules based on their primary sequence. The additional funding will allow Oncuchic's lab to expand advances in biophysics by extending knowledge of cellular division, cellular signaling, and cancer metastasis. Explore your potential working side by side with scholars at the top of their field. Be decisive. Choose Rice. Sincerely, Julie M. Browning Dean for Undergraduate Enrollment |
