 | Dear Diana,
If you are interested in pursuing a career in business, finance or management, Purdue’s College of Health and Human Sciences (HHS) is definitely the right fit for you. The reasons I chose Purdue for hospitality and tourism management (HTM) programs stretch beyond the school’s strong reputation, and I want to tell you why. Even from my visits, I could tell that the professors were very involved with students and student success. This attention creates many hands-on opportunities for students on campus. If you are looking for real-world experience that aligns with your future goals, then look no further than HHS. For instance, I hope to work for a hotel as a general manager and event planner, and my program connected me with the study abroad experience to get there. During my spring and summer semester, I was enrolled in the CIEE business and tourism program in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Along with taking Spanish and event planning courses at Universitat de les Illes Balears (UIB), I completed an internship with two different hotels in reception and financial controls. This international industry experience — coupled with my homestay and cultural immersion — enriched my education in so many ways. I even got to work one-on-one with a Spanish student on her English as she helped me with my Spanish. It’s these little moments that helped me grow and develop a new cultural awareness, confidence and outgoing personality that are perfect for my field. If you want to have a career-aligning study abroad experience like mine, Purdue HHS is the place for you. Hopefully soon you’ll experience it too!
