Hawai'i Pacific University | | Aloha Diana, Shylee describes herself as a, "independent local Hawaiian girl." | Seeking to improve her community by improving herself through higher education, Shylee sees volunteer work as a cornerstone of her university experience. Whether she's working in a lo'i (wetland taro patch), restoring an ancient native fishpond, or volunteering for the Pearl Harbor Hawaiian Civic Club, Shylee feels it is her responsibility to care for the numerous natural and historical resources in Hawai'i. "The services for the communities I give my time to are my greatest achievements." In addition to her volunteer work, Shylee sees business as an opportunity to strengthen the community. Choosing to major in general business and minor in human services allows her to best contribute to her community, "I figured that the ultimate way to exemplify my want to help people would be through the use and power of business." Shylee is an outstanding student and had the pick of many top-tier universities across the country. Her academic excellence earned her a full scholarship from Hawai'i Pacific University. She chose to attend HPU to pursue her goals in one of the most diverse, best return on investment private schools in the country. "Being informed of my acceptance to Hawai'i Pacific University was a moment of great joy. I have an outstandingly great opportunity to attend such a prestigious college and fulfill goals of mine."
