| Dear Diana,
Whether it's protecting the environment by reducing the emission of greenhouse gases, applying radiation to combat cancer and other diseases, or designing propulsion systems for deep space exploration, a degree in nuclear engineering opens a world of career opportunities. Purdue’s Nuclear Engineering (NE) can help you succeed in areas like health care, energy, national security and the environment. Why Nuclear Engineering? Here are a few highlights about our program: We’re a tight-knit community of about 70 undergraduates and 15 professors. By the time you graduate, you’ll have taken a course from each faculty member and developed close relationships with your classmates. We work together to create a positive and diverse environment where you can learn and discover. NE is meeting society’s demands for nuclear innovations by producing 10 percent of the nation’s nuclear engineers. Our students graduate ready to become leaders in the field of nuclear engineering – and ready to make an impact on our world! Do you want hands-on research experience? We support and encourage undergraduate research, and offer our students opportunities for international experiences. And we’re one of only a handful of universities to have a nuclear reactor. Research experience with Purdue University’s Reactor Number One (PUR-1) will put you at the forefront among nuclear engineers!
