Wendell Castle attended an opening reception for his current exhibit. Castle, who is widely recognized as the "father of the art furniture movement," is exhibiting a wide variety of drawings, maquettes and select sculptural and dimensional work inside RIT's University Gallery through November. This marks the first-ever exhibition to focus on Castle's creative process, providing evidence of how he conceives and creates.

RIT ranked among top national universities by 'U.S. News & World Report'

RIT is being recognized as a top tier national university for the first time in the 34-year history of U.S. News & World Report rankings. The change is a result of the university's reclassification in becoming a "doctoral university" this year due to its rapid increase in research and Ph.D. graduates. The 2017 edition of U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges ranked RIT 107th in the "National Universities" category. These top universities—a grouping of 310 schools— "offer a full range of undergraduate majors, plus master's and Ph.D. programs, and emphasize faculty research," according to U.S. News. Read More >>

Students work with NASA to develop star-tracking telescope

A team of RIT undergraduates is on a mission to build a cryogenic star-tracking telescope for NASA. RIT won $200,000 from NASA's Undergraduate Student Instrument Project Flight Research Opportunity program to build a "compass" for sounding rockets using a new imaging sensor technology. Following a successful initial flight, the system will fly on a NASA experiment to help point larger telescopes measuring extragalactic light from the cosmic infrared background. Read More >>

SAAC president prepares for season

Natalie Hurd, a fourth-year industrial engineering student, is the current president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a national coalition under the NCAA that is designed to improve the experience of student-athletes and tighten athletics communities. Hurd, from Sammamish, Wash., is a four-year member of the RIT women's soccer team. After graduation, Hurd plans to pursue technical sales. Read More >>
