HARVARD COLLEGE Admissions & Financial Aid

Dear Diana,

No matter what your academic or professional goals may be, studying the arts and humanities can provide a new lens through which to explore and understand our world.

What Are The 'Humanities'?

The humanities explore the reach of human reason, creativity, and imagination. More specifically, this covers the academic disciplines of language, culture, literature, art, music, and philosophy.

Watch our new student-produced video to get a sense of what it's like to study the humanities at Harvard.

Watch the Humanities video

Hear from current students about what an education in the humanities means to them.

If you're interested in studying the humanities but aren't sure where to start, we offer a few key introductory courses - Humanities 10 a/b and Humanities 11 a/b/c - designed to get you thinking about all the ways people express, define, and understand themselves and the world.

The Division of Arts and Humanities, set within the context of a liberal arts and sciences institution, complements Harvard's Program in General Education on linking the arts and sciences with the 21st century world you face and the life you will lead after college.

Arts and Culture

Outside the classroom, Harvard’s music, dance, and theater scene includes a mix of student-led and faculty-led groups. All groups perform at a variety of venues, and many take their productions on tour nationally and around the world.

 Arts and Culture

Find your place in Harvard's thriving artistic community.

We hope you will consider applying to Harvard and exploring how the arts and humanities can shape and add depth and dimension to your life during your college years and beyond.

Sincerely,

Dean Fitzsimmons Signature
