Hello, Diana!

Exciting news! Beginning in 2016 for the 2017-2018 academic year, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be available earlier – in October rather than January!

The FAFSA will also use information from two years prior to the application year (the “prior prior year”, or PPY) instead of the previous year. This means that you can apply for financial aid using your tax information from 2015, rather than waiting until spring 2017!

These changes mean that you will get a reliable understanding of your financial aid eligibility and the true cost of college much earlier in the process.

We understand that you and your family might have some questions about this new process. Thankfully, our friends at the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) have put together a 1-minute video explaining the process:

You can also click here for additional PPY information provided by the College Board. We also invite you to contact the Pitzer Financial Aid staff at financial_aid@pitzer.edu or 909.621.8208 with any questions you may have about the process.

We hope you find this information helpful as you continue the college search process!

Sincerely,

Robin Thompson
