A monumental discovery will change the way scientists view the universe and RIT researchers played a key role in the revelation. RIT scientists produced one of the first computer simulations of gravitational waves from colliding black holes. The signals they predicted were confirmed by the LIGO Scientific Collaboration's first observation of gravitational waves.

RIT researchers on team confirming Einstein's theories

Six RIT researchers are among the authors of a paper announcing what may be the most important scientific discovery in a century – findings that confirm the existence of gravitational waves predicted in Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity. For the first time, scientists have observed ripples in the fabric of spacetime called gravitational waves, arriving at the earth from a cataclysmic event in the distant universe. Design programs ranked among the world's best

Several of RIT's design programs are among the world's best, according to an independent online ranking authority that gives the university high marks for creative teaching methods and positioning students to succeed post-graduation. "These programs regularly graduate designers who are not only highly talented, they demonstrate to companies that they are ready to meet their demanding requirements," said Lorraine Justice, dean of RIT's College of Imaging Arts and Sciences. RIT introduces Exercise Science program

Exercise Science is a growing field that scientifically addresses issues of health and fitness as well as human performance. Within the curriculum of the Exercise Science program, students can take specific courses in the Clinical or Athletic Track. Whether interested in helping people recover from the unhealthy effects of a sedentary lifestyle or training athletes to extend and expand their capacity to perform, the Exercise Science program has the curriculum and facilities to move career plans forward. Students spend intersession helping refugees in Rwanda

Kristine Liotta spent winter break visiting a Rwandan refugee camp to collect data points on a GPS. Now back in class at RIT, the second-year electrical engineering major is using that data to create maps that can help improve the lives of refugees and refugee camp organizers in Rwanda. Liotta was one of nine RIT students from different majors who traveled to Africa in January for an intersession study abroad. The visit was part of a spring course aimed at giving students the experience and skills using mapping technology to address real-world issues, including climate change and refugee affairs.
