There is something deeply wrong with mankind, as if we didn't know already.
It takes a stupendous amount of effort to refute a deeply held myth -- far more effort than it should if the Enlightenment's confidence in the human devotion to reason had been justified.
For example, an incredible 38 percent of Americans somehow still think Saddam Hussein -- the man Osama bin Laden offered to help drive out of Kuwait in 1990 -- was involved in 9/11.
Likewise, no matter how much work medievalists do, everyone still believes long-refuted nonsense about the Middle Ages.
And basic economic truths may as well be written in Chinese. Here's a graphical representation of 112 studies on rent control. The blue, on the right, means benefit; the red, on the left, means harm.
So yes, rent control benefits its recipients (although less than they think), but it hurts everyone else: it pushes up other rents, it leads to less housing construction, and it promotes more building deterioration. Everyone knows this. Yet huge majorities of Americans believe in all kinds of rent caps.
Must be demoralizing being an economist: you devote your life to refuting wealth-destroying idiocies, and as you're lying there on your deathbed, your nurse casually repeats one of those idiocies, and you wonder to yourself "what was the point of it all" as you quietly expire.
With the DSA wing of the Democratic Party suddenly influential instead of on the fringes, we can expect plenty more idiocy in the coming years, I am sorry to report.
You are trying to make arguments worthy of a human being, the kind based in reason and motivated by a genuine humanitarianism, since the outcomes of the approach you favor are the best for all concerned, and don't simply enrich one group at the expense of another (with plenty of deadweight loss thrown in).
They like checks with their names on them.
The crazies are on the verge of being unleashed. It's bad enough that the Fed stole 29 percent of your savings over the past six years (that's seriously how much value the dollar has lost since 2020). That is going to seem like a walk in the park next to what the crazies have in store.
Without a doubt fight against these people by every means available, but for heaven's sake on an individual level look out for yourself and your family. This is why I am semi-insisting that you register for the free Phoenician League online summit this week (it starts tomorrow).
Could this thing have been timed any better, with the crazy redistributors unleashed like never before?
Some of the sixteen people presenting have been friends of mine for years and years. Anthony Fauci gave the term "expert" such a bad name that I hesitate even to use it anymore, but these guys really are experts, and you will benefit from each one's expertise, e.g.:
gold and Bitcoin
real estate and mortgage notes
becoming your own banker
tax strategy (one speaker once owed the IRS $1.3 million and clawed his way out)
privacy, and internationalizing your assets
Our side has lots of smart people, and they want to help good guys like you and me hold on to and grow our wealth in a world that's dying to snatch it away.
Remember, it costs nothing and it starts tomorrow, so register right away:
