David C. Munson Jr. was introduced to the community as Rochester Institute of Technology's 10th president. Dr. Munson, former dean at the University of Michigan, succeeds President Destler in July.

RIT names its 10th president

David C. Munson Jr. has been selected by the RIT Board of Trustees to be the university's next president. Munson was vetted by a 24-member search committee from a pool of national candidates. "It is a great honor and privilege to become the next president of what I believe to be a gem in higher education," said Munson. "I was drawn to RIT when I observed an exciting portfolio of academic programs, research with impact to solve global problems and an ability to stay focused on the overall student experience. Datto founder and CEO Austin McChord to give 2017 RIT commencement address

Austin McChord, founder and CEO of the widely acclaimed technology company Datto Inc., will be the keynote speaker for RIT's 132nd commencement celebration. McChord, an RIT alumnus who now serves on the university's Board of Trustees, will speak at the Academic Convocation, set for noon May 19 in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center. RIT President Bill Destler said the university is honored to have McChord addressing its graduates. "Austin McChord embodies the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit that is RIT," Destler said. "We are so proud of all he has accomplished and what he has brought back to the Rochester community. Our graduating students and their families will find his story inspiring." Read More >>

RIT and Vellore Institute of Technology sign Memorandum of Understanding

RIT has signed an agreement to establish a joint center with Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) at its new extension campus located in Vijayawada in the capital of Andhra Pradesh, India. The center will focus on developing engineering, computer science and business curricula that would facilitate transfer for both undergraduate and graduate students from the VIT campus to RIT, lay the foundation for an RIT-VIT center of excellence in supply chain and manufacturing processes, and develop joint programs to promote collaboration of Indian industrial partners in research, education and training programs. Expressions of King's Legacy 35th anniversary celebration recap

This year's guest speakers and performers at the RIT Expressions of King's Legacy celebration had historical connections, not only to Dr. King, but to each other. The 2017 event, now in its 35th year, featured the Fisk Jubilee Singers, District of Columbia Circuit Court Judge Robert Wilkins and CNN anchor Fredricka Whitfield. Wilkins talked poignantly about the 100-year journey to establish the National Museum of African American History and Culture, and his role as chairman of the memorial's site committee, in that effort. The nearly 1,000 community and campus members heard him speak of the men and women who took the idea of a memorial in 1915 to its fruition when it was dedicated in September 2016. Read More >>
