Dear Diana,

You have worked hard to get here. You took all the tests. You made all the grades. You studied late and woke up early so that you could apply to the school of your choice. And it paid off. We at the University of North Florida are so glad you have shown an interest in us and I, as the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, am thrilled that you are interested in a program within our College.

The College of Arts and Sciences is the most diverse of the five colleges at UNF. We offer courses in everything from the hard sciences to the humanities. We provide a strong educational foundation on which you may build your future, whether that be future academic study or a solid career. Our faculty is second-to-none in its dedication to you, the student. They are some of the greatest minds with whom I have had the pleasure to work. And they work with you in and out of the classroom to see you succeed. Often, when I am leaving campus for the evening, I see a professor and a student meeting to review a chapter or go over notes before a test. And it is not unusual for me to duck into a local coffee shop and run into a faculty member hosting a study session with a group of students.

Your success is our success. We want you to learn how to learn, how to think critically and how to ask why. We want to challenge you to learn more, to stretch further and to surprise yourself with your accomplishments. When you leave campus after graduation, you will leave with the knowledge and skillsets that will allow you to compete in the global marketplace. You will have been there, done that through internships, study abroad opportunities and research with faculty.

That is all that we can do for you, but we can hardly wait to see the lasting impact you will have at the University of North Florida. As much as you will learn from us, we will learn from you. And it starts today. I hope to see you on campus soon for a campus tour, open house or Saturday @ the Nest. You'll love what you see.
