Dear Diana,

My name is Brandy and I am currently a sophomore at Brandeis and a MKTYP scholar. On behalf of the Brandeis community, I want to wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving, and share with you how the members of the Brandeis community are giving back this holiday season. 

For the past six years, Brandeis has hosted Kindness Day. Kindness Day encourages us to appreciate those around us through various activities such as donating blankets to Cradles to Crayons or writing cards for caregivers of people with Alzheimer's. This year, students also assembled bags of trail mix to be donated to the Community Day Center of Waltham, the only day shelter in the metro-west area. 

Brandeis Kindness Day is one of my favorite traditions because it gives me an opportunity to meet new people and to encourage others to be generous not only on Kindness Day, but everyday. Helping others isn't just something we do around holidays. Our commitment to social justice lasts throughout the year as we strive to create a lasting impact in the Boston area and beyond. Brandeis students completed more than 60,000 community service hours in the past year. Our largest student-run organization, The Waltham Group, organizes a variety of service activities throughout the year – from running tutoring programs for underprivileged youth to assisting with housing efforts through Habitat for Humanity.

If you want to be a part of this amazing community, I urge you to learn more about our commitment to service and plan your visit to campus.

As I look back on Kindness Day and prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday, I am very thankful for all the people at Brandeis who contributed to my education and my life. Brandeis continues to offer me plentiful experiences which allow me to impact many different lives. I am grateful for what Brandeis and the MKTYP have given to me, and for the support I feel everyday to pursue my dreams.
