Dr. Vincent Fischetti '62 H'10, head of the Laboratory of Bacterial Pathogenesis and Immunology at Rockefeller University, gave a talk at Wagner College on October 20 about his groundbreaking work to develop novel means of fighting infectious disease. His work exploiting bacteriophages, a type of virus that attacks bacteria, is leading to new medical treatments. Now in phase 2 clinical trials, the new treatments show great promise to cure antibiotic-resistant infections such as MRSA, much faster and more effectively than current treatments. What an opportunity for our microbiology students! |
