Raising the bar on nutrition education

Nutrition management has long been a staple at RIT, and Barbara Lohse is ready to take it to the next level. Lohse—head of the Wegmans School of Health and Nutrition in the College of Health Sciences and Technology— is laying groundwork for a national presence for the school formed in 2014. Prior to RIT, Lohse developed programs and services as a lead researcher of SNAP-Ed, formerly known as Food Stamps Nutrition Education, at Penn State University. She brought with her the Nutrition Education Engineering & Designs (NEED) center—a repository of her nutrition-education products. Grants allow faculty to reimagine learning

Learning by doing is the focus of Daniel Ashbrook's Internet of Things prototyping class. Using particle photon mini-computer boards, LEDs and 3D printers, students are creating everything from desktop notification robots to smart remote controls. "We are exploring what it means to make physical artifacts that can be connected to the Internet," said Ashbrook, an assistant professor of information sciences and technologies. "It may sound simple, but I think the best way for students to learn about these smart devices is to actually create them." Read More >>

RIT's global campuses unite in OneSpiRIT

Students at RIT campuses around the world will unite in a celebration of the countries and cultures that make them unique Saturday during RIT's third OneSpiRIT event. Students from RIT's campuses in Kosovo, Dubai, Rochester and the Croatia campuses in Dubrovnik and Zagreb will be competing in a game show via live teleconference, answering questions about the different campuses and pop culture.
