Rice University

Diana,

As you may know, Rice University requires all applicants to submit either SAT scores and the results of two SAT Subject Tests or to submit results from the ACT. We have no preference between these two options, nor do we have a preference for the old SAT or the new, redesigned SAT. If you take either exam more than once, we will use only your highest individual section scores, in the case of the SAT, or your highest composite ACT score, in our evaluation.

In order to ensure every applicant benefits from this policy, we require the results of all such exams be submitted to Rice. If you have taken the SAT, SAT Subject Tests, or the ACT and elected to suppress the release of any of your scores, please release them now to ensure that you meet our application deadlines.

If you have not taken all the tests that are required to complete an application to Rice, you need to act now. All standardized testing should be completed no later than December of 2016. Note that both the College Board and the ACT require you to register a month or more in advance of the test dates, so be aware of the deadlines:

SAT and SAT Subject Tests - Click here for registration and test taking information.

  • The registration deadline for the October 1 SAT and SAT Subject Tests is September 1.
  • The registration deadline for the November 5 SAT and SAT Subject Tests is October 7.
  • The registration deadline for the December 3 SAT and SAT Subject Tests is November 3.

ACT - Click here for registration and test taking information.

  • The registration deadline for the October 22 ACT test is September 16.
  • The registration deadline for the December 10 ACT test is November 4.

Be sure to add Rice as a score recipient when you register for the test to ensure that your scores are sent directly to Rice by the appropriate deadline. Our College Board code number is 6609. Our ACT code number is 4152.

If you have questions or concerns, consult our website or call us at (713) 348-RICE. We look forward to getting to know you better through your application.

Sincerely,
Julie M. Browning
