RIT leadership embarks on 'Silicon Valley Engagement Initiative'

A 90-member delegation from Rochester Institute of Technology is holding strategic meetings with 24 global high-tech companies and organizations in Silicon Valley, July 20 to 23. Discussions during the "Silicon Valley Engagement Initiative," based in San Jose, Calif., will center on innovation, entrepreneurship, corporate research and development, and more. "This is a great opportunity for RIT to engage our stakeholders within the Silicon Valley area – alumni, corporations, prospective students – about our strategic direction," said Christine Whitman, chair of the RIT Board of Trustees. 'Fiske Best Buy List' recognizes RIT for 2017

RIT has again been named a "Best Buy" school to the 2017 Fiske Guide to Colleges, one of only 26 private and 21 public universities in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom to earning that distinction this year. The guide, created 33 years ago by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, is a selective, subjective and systematic look at more than 300 colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada and Great Britain aimed at selecting "the best and most interesting." RIT awarded a total of $1 million from NSF for gravitational-wave astronomy

Two RIT professors who are leaders in gravitational-wave astronomy have won more than $1 million in federal funding to further their research. Carlos Lousto and Manuela Campanelli, director of RIT's Center for Computational Relativity and Gravitation, won separate multi-year grants from the National Science Foundation worth $600,000 and $435,000, respectively. The $600,000 grant will support Lousto's research modeling black holes orbiting and colliding with each other under extreme conditions. Read More >>
