Roger Easton, professor in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science, uses multispectral imaging to uncover hidden text from historical objects. He is spending the intersession in Chartres, France, imaging fragments of manuscripts damaged in WWII bombings before the spring semester begins.

Galaxy quakes could improve hunt for dark matter

A trio of brightly pulsating stars at the outskirts of the Milky Way is racing away from the galaxy and may confirm a method for detecting dwarf galaxies dominated by dark matter and explain ripples in the outer disk of the galaxy. This new method to characterize dark matter marks the first real application of the field of galactoseismology. Just as seismologists analyze waves to infer properties about the Earth's interior, Sukanya Chakrabarti, assistant professor at RIT, uses waves in the galactic disk to map the interior structure and mass of galaxies. Women's basketball nationally ranked for first time in program history

The RIT women's basketball team is nationally ranked for the first time in program history. The Tigers are 23rd in this week's USA Today Sports Division III Top 25 Coaches poll, receiving 16 points. It is the first national ranking for RIT in the 29-year history of the program. The Tigers are currently 11-4 overall and are atop the Liberty League standings with a 4-2 mark. RIT is the highest scoring team in the Liberty League, averaging 72.4 points per game, and is out-scoring its opponents by an averaging of 7.4 points per game. Read More >>
