When you've hosted a podcast for a while you start noticing what people want to listen to, and what they don't.
But sometimes you wish you could tell them: I know you think you don't want to hear about this topic, but I promise you do.
When I release episodes discussing countries other than the United States, listener numbers drop off. People assume they won't be interested, because the episode won't have anything to do with their immediate concerns.
But there is a very real possibility that some of the appalling trends in other countries will make their way over here. So my episode with Dominic Frisby on what's going on in the UK is very much worth your time, and I assure you Dominic is never boring.
A sampling of what we talked about:
The "two-tier" pattern Dominic says turns up everywhere -- policing, the courts, welfare, housing -- in which native Englishmen always wind up in second place (this is why former PM Keir Starmer was called "two-tier Keir")
Dominic writes comic songs he performs in comedy clubs: in his song about history's villains you'll be stunned at the name that drew "a visceral, guttural cheer like I've never heard before" (it wasn't Hitler)
Reform is polling around 30%. Guess how many of Britain's 650 parliamentary seats that actually buys them, and you'll get a glimpse into how the system works
The stabbing victim who reportedly gasped the same last words George Floyd did, and the shocking police response
The Rupert Lowe / Nigel Farage blowup almost no American is watching, and how it may be quietly dragging the country's entire politics rightward
Dominic's theory connecting Canada's anti-Trump mood to the losers of the American Revolution (I'd never heard this one before)
Brexit was never fully implemented (because the people implementing it hated it); Dominic explains how, instead of escaping EU regulation, UK elites made it worse
Ten years later, Brexit is being blamed for everything from Covid to Ireland missing the World Cup; Dominic's actual list is hilarious
"Singapore on Thames" was within reach, and Dominic says the payoff would have landed within 12 months. Instead, it's stagnation as far as the eye can see
On his way out the door, the evil Keir Starmer quietly pushed a rule forcing YouTube and Facebook to promote "trusted news sources." Guess which broadcaster happens to be the most "trusted" news source
