More than 150 students from packaging science programs across the country came to RIT for the annual Packaging Jamboree. Conference attendees were able to learn about the latest industry trends, network with professionals in the field and present current research about packaging projects underway. One of those projects, presented by RIT graduate packaging student Kevin Cosgrove, is about how the packaging industry will incorporate drone technology into e-commerce delivery.

School of Film and Animation ranked lucky No. 13 nationally

RIT's School of Film and Animation (SOFA) is once again ranked among the top animation schools in the country by Animation Career Review, a leading online resource of information for aspiring animation and game design professionals. In three separate rankings, RIT places No. 13 nationally (among the top 10 percent of schools considered); No. 12 among private schools and colleges (also top 10 percent); No. 6 on the East Coast; and No. 4 in New York state. "Graduates of RIT's animation programs have found employment at top studios such as Disney Animation Studios, Electronic Arts, DreamWorks, Blue Sky Studios, Nickelodeon, Industrial Light and Magic, and Rhythm and Hues Studios," the publication writes in SOFA's profile. RIT alumnus wins national award for undergraduate physics research

A recent graduate of RIT's College of Science has been recognized by the American Association of Physics Teachers and the Advanced Laboratory Physics Association for his contributions as an undergraduate student researcher to RIT's School of Physics and Astronomy. Ryan Scott, who earned his BS in physics from RIT in 2016, has won the AAPT-ALPhA Award for developing a new experiment for the upper-level undergraduate physics lab at RIT. The award also recognizes Scott's faculty advisers Edwin Hach III, assistant professor of physics, and Stefan Preble, associate professor of microsystems engineering and electrical and microelectronic engineering at RIT. Hach and Preble are both members of the university's Future Photon Initiative, an RIT signature research area. Read More >>

Local companies with RIT connections get $1 million boost from New York state

Four early-stage companies launched at RIT have received more than $1 million through New York state's Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprise Investment Fund. The companies have also received more than $1.9 million in private matching funds and are expected to create additional jobs in 2018. The announcement from Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office was made earlier this month. "Venture Creations is proud to be associated with many of the companies that received funding from New York state that will expand their businesses and enhance economic development within the region," said Richard Notargiacomo, director of RIT's Venture Creations incubator. "We are truly supportive of our minority- and women-owned businesses and wholeheartedly believe in providing these businesses with tools such as quality coaching, professional consulting and connections with industry professionals that are essential to sustainable growth, job creation and a positive impact on our economy."
