The RIT women's basketball team won its first conference title in the 30-year history of the program. With the win, RIT secures the automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament. It will be the first time in program history the Tigers will appear in the NCAA Tournament.

Optimism abounds at Spring Career Fair

Rachelle Siawta and Sarah Woolf Spath are proof that RIT's career fairs connect students with employers. When they were students, Siawta '10 (electrical/mechanical engineering technology) and Spath '13 (mechanical engineering) both were offered co-ops with Exelon Corp., which owns and operates the Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in Ontario, N.Y. They have been working for the company permanently for years and returned to the RIT campus to recruit other students during Wednesday's annual RIT Spring Career Fair. "We always come back to RIT because we get great quality, highly-educated candidates," said their co-worker, Caitlin Cardinale '12 (human resource development), who said they were hiring full-time mechanical and electrical engineers. Science Exploration Program studies habitable zone of alien planets

First-year students in RIT's Science Exploration Program are reproducing a slice of life in their lab that might exist on the seven Earth-like planets recently discovered in another solar system. NASA recently announced the record-setting discovery of planets orbiting another star. The red dwarf star, called TRAPPIST-1, is located 40 light years away. Astronomers studied fluctuations in the star's brightness when the planets crossed in front of the star and blocked its light. Excitement surrounds the potential of liquid water on the seven planets and habitable conditions on the first three. RIT undergraduates are simulating the right atmospheric conditions within the habitable zone suitable for supporting life beyond our solar system. RIT Racing competes as only U.S. entrant this summer in Formula Student East, Budapest

RIT's Formula Racing team will head to Budapest, Hungary this summer to compete for the first time in Formula Student East, a major collegiate racing competition. RIT Racing will also be the only American entry for the competition taking place July 20-23, 2017 at the Euro-Ring Circuit. More than 115 collegiate race teams from 28 countries are expected. Formula Student East is only one event on the schedule as the team celebrates its 25th anniversary of national and international competitions, and highlights its successes since it first began racing in the early 1990s. "Some of the best, most competitive Formula Student teams from Europe will compete in Budapest," said Jon Washington, 2017 project manager for RIT Racing. "We're really looking forward to heading back to Europe for competition. These trips allow us to validate a year's worth of hard work against some of the best teams in the world." Read More >>
