Hi Diana! Thank you for your interest in Cornell University! As you already know, this is a pivotal time in your life and choosing the "perfect" college can add an extra challenge. I use the word "perfect" lightly because no school will ever match 100% of your expectations; therefore, it is important to find a university that is the right fit. When I reflect back on my college search process, I remember the important attributes that I was searching for: academic excellence, diverse location, bustling student life, and a community to call home. Luckily, I found Cornell and have been privileged to call it home for the past 2 years! It took much deliberation to decide on a university that was 2,000 miles away from my home in Oregon. I wanted to share with you the reasons that I chose Cornell when I was in your shoes, just a couple years ago! Education: As a member of the Ivy League, Cornell is a highly ranked institution with numerous accolades. We enjoy the benefits of attracting the most prestigious faculty and brightest students from nearly 120 countries. With seven undergraduate colleges/schools, the philosophy of "any person, any study" still continues to remain the cornerstone of a Cornell education. As your interest shifts over the course of four years, Cornell will provide you with instruction in nearly every subject, such as hotel administration, engineering, agriculture science, labor relations, business, and any liberal arts major imaginable. For instance, as a communication major in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, I am still provided the opportunity to take courses across the entire university and explore my interests as they evolve and develop. Student Life: While the academic experience remains diverse, the student life continues to push the limits of a college campus. With 1,000 clubs and organizations on Cornell's campus, there is a club for every interest, from engineering project teams, to mock trial, and cultural clubs—the list is endless! If you're not chanting cheers at a hockey game or enjoying an a cappella concert, you might be attending a special lecture series, or just catching a movie with friends at the on-campus movie theatre. There is never a dull moment on campus. Location: Cornell University's main campus is located in Ithaca, NY, in the Finger Lakes region. Ithaca continues to be ranked as one of the best college towns in America for its vibrant community of college students and inspiring beauty! One great thing I also like to mention about Cornell and its location is the gorgeous scenery—where else can you walk over a waterfall on your way to class every day? Cornell's beauty is extraordinary and still leaves me in awe daily. I still catch myself taking selfies with the natural beauty in the background. From your first week as a freshman to the moment you walk across the stage as a graduating senior, your experience at Cornell will be filled with many wonderful memories. The first day you step onto Cornell's campus, a strong community is formed. By attending Cornell, you join a vast global network of talented individuals who change the world every day. I am proud to call myself a Cornellian and can't wait to continue the next two years of my journey! Hopefully I'll be seeing you on campus for an information session and campus tour very soon! I encourage you to look through the Cornell website to find more information on a subject that may interest you. Until then, best of luck on your college application process and if you have any questions at all, feel free to email a Student Ambassador (cuambassadors@cornell.edu), such as myself, for answers. Best Wishes, Nicholas Levy '18 Student Ambassador |
