| Diana, A year ago, Rice alumni Ann and John Doerr provided the single largest gift in University history to establish their namesake program, the Doerr Institute for New Leaders. In its inaugural year, the Institute helped nearly 300 students develop and hone personal leadership skills to maximize their impact in the community. The Doerr Institute, which aims to be "the most comprehensive leader development initiative at any top 20 university," utilizes professional coaches working one-on-one with students on individual assessments. Students discover their strengths and leadership styles and then use them to pinpoint ways to apply to future situations. Over the next few years, more than $250,000 in grants will be distributed around campus to further the study of leadership and enhance the outcomes of the Doerr Institute. Former Houston Mayor Annise Parker ('78) will contribute to its efforts as a member of Rice's faculty, and the first Doerr Institute Fellow. Join a unique community where leadership is encouraged across the entire spectrum of human endeavor. Be decisive. Choose Rice. Sincerely, Julie M. Browning Dean for Undergraduate Enrollment |
