Harvard College

Diana,

William Fitzsimmons

While there is no single academic path that is right for all students to follow, we want to offer you some ideas that we hope will be helpful as you prepare for college. By making the most of your talents, you will be able to apply to colleges that will challenge and support you to pursue your interests to the fullest.

Learn more about preparing for college

Here are some things to consider:

Challenge yourself: Take academically challenging courses and you can improve your chance of admission to selective colleges and, more importantly, your performance during the college years and beyond.

Make the most of your resources: Read through information about what we look for in an applicant. As with many selective institutions, Harvard above all seeks students who make the most of their opportunities and the resources available to them.

Consider a gap year: Think about taking time off before, during, or after college. Read Time Out or Burn Out for the Next Generation.

Request a fee waiver: If the application fee is a concern, simply request a fee waiver and we'll respond.

As Dean of Admissions & Financial Aid, I want to assure you that each applicant to Harvard College is considered with great care. We hope you'll consider applying, and we look forward to giving your application the individualized attention it deserves.

Sincerely,

William R. Fitzsimmons
Dean of Admissions & Financial Aid
